STARTUP & FORMATION PHASES

Working inside system formation while structures, metrics, and accountability are still emerging

Legibility is hardest, and most valuable, when nothing is yet standardized.

Prior to steady-state operations – during:

    • Launching
    • Regulatory changes, threshold crossings
    • Department creations
    • Policy regime shifts

If you’ve ever been there, you’ve experienced:

    • No established operating model
    • Metrics defined prior to having been validated
    • Accountability without infrastructure
    • External oversight without internal alignment
    • High consequences before maturity

Embedded systems, metrics, and accountability my contribution

In each formative environment, I worked at the intersection of data, governance, and human decision-making: building actionable systems while rules, structures, and metrics were still being written.

Contributions I made in my role:

Framing: Defining what “success” would look like, mapping interdependencies, and establishing actionable KPIs

Assessment: Identifying gaps in data, assumptions, and processes before they scaled into risk

Solutioning: Designing and prototyping operational and analytical systems that provided legible insights and guided decisions

Transformation: Supporting the adoption of systems and practices that outlived the grant or organizational startup phase, ensuring sustainability and continuity

Two formative experiences where legibility proved to be critical:

◆ Grant-funded ‘student success and workforce readiness’ initiative

As the sole ORSA on a 5-person team for a $3.15M, 5-year intitative, we unified disparate student, faculty, and administrative systems into a coherent operations model. By validating baseline metrics and surfacing hidden errors two years ahead of schedule, we enabled proactive interventions that safeguarded program outcomes. Our frameworks ensured post-grant continuity in instructional delivery, tracking, and reporting.

◆ 90+yo financial institution crossing regulatory thresholds

Embedded within a newly established department under federal oversight, we built the foundation for model risk, compliance, and operational governance. As the only ORSA among 30 statisticians, the dashboards I prototyped and systems I helped integrate reduced data latency from ‘over 30days’ to ‘under 48hr’, giving leadership real-time insights into critical risks. These prototypes became the blueprint for enterprise-wide implementation: bridging analytics, technology, and governance across functions.
