ACTIVITY

 

You hear it everywhere:

            • “Our bodies are built to move”
            • “Sitting is the new smoking”

 

Activity content’s goal is to:

• Inspire / motivate
• Provide resources
• Realize time, space, tools, and coaching are within your reach.

BACKSTORY:

With the Navy, came the safety of base enclosure:

    • Wake up at 0400. Stretch. Run around base until gym opened at 0530
    • Essentially zero competing obligations / priorities that time of day to thwart workout
    • Had time to research workouts and create lifting/running routines

Since separating:

    • No longer have the safety of the base to be out running before daylight
    • Limited time / attention to create new workouts
    • Workout time now competing with:
      • Work, professional development, and home commitments
      • Commuting between – home/work/gym

When Covid-19 hit in the spring of 2020:

    • Those with an established home gym didn’t experience disruption to their exercise. Others’ access was completely severed.

DISCOVERY & ACTION:

Establish more independence and variety in home-based activity:

COACHING

      • Hampton, of opens in a new windowHybrid Calisthenics. Offers great content with an approachable style. His method starts by establishing a strong foundation. He then shows how to perform more advanced movements
      • Mike Volkin, creator of opens in a new windowStack52 exercise products based on deck of 52 cards. The flexibility of his design eases keeping things ‘fresh’. Each product spans ‘beginner’ to ‘advanced’. This product design removes the “create new routine” burdens.
          • Consider laminating your cards to extend the life of them; lamination has no impact on QR code reading

EQUIPMENT (not intended to be an exhaustive list)
