4 Steps To Implement &/or Transform Your Data Strategy

Appropriated from the U.S. Navy SEAL’s formula for establishing mastery – IAPE:

IDENTIFY

    • Why     example –   data ripples across all parts of your business, a 3000′ view:
      • Marketing, Advertising = Reach
      • Marketshare, Economics = political, environmental trends
      • Product, Service, Technology = Operations costs
      • Pricing, Vendors, Distribution = Sales costs
      • Staffing, Office/Facilities = Overhead
      • Research, Development = future trends, offerings
    • What     example – needs for your business, a 3000′ view:
      • Sources, assets
      • Infrastructure, tools, applications, platforms
      • Security
    • How     example – practices enable resilient operations, a 3000′ view:
      • Capture, combine
      • Govern quality & access
      • Risk, compliance management
      • Analytics, data sciences
      • Storytelling, strategy

ASSESS

    • for each of the parts/practices identified above, how is it performing – serving you?
      • good                                                  green
      • weak                                                  yellow
      • missing, not doing well enough     red

PRIORITIZE

    • approach your transformation such that you first focus on aspect that makes greatest impact (has widest/deepest reach) across your operations
    • iteratively “prioritizing by power” will culminate in total transformation

EXECUTE, EVOLVE

    • in such a way that:
      • sets your business’s data to be ‘cared for’ into the future
      • enables you to be ‘ambitiously lazy’ – your focus remains on your product/service offer
